From Sara Antoinette Martin:
What is a good tattoo? A collaboration that is built on a foundation of trust and consent. I believe in taking the ego out out it. To be of service. If I want to express myself, I can do it on paper.
Paramount to me is client experience. I want you to feel informed about the process, sure of the design, confident and relaxed while we work, and happy with the results.
I’ve spent most of my art-making life in commercial art, and I like to work within parameters. To collaborate and connect with another person. To be weird and collecting like minded people.
I love so many things about tattooing! The technical challenge of every body part and skin tone, the visual problem solving (why I’m into cover ups), the conceptual task of transforming a wacky idea into a beautiful image that flows on the body.
I like to make tattoos with bold lines and bright colors. Animals, floral, anything under the sea, pet portraits, memorials, gorgons, mystical things. There is no greater feeling than the validation and connection that comes from making a client’s vision come to be and the self love a tattoo can create within them, and that’s why I tattoo.
